Magical photos at Trolltunga
Trolltunga is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the country. Even though many people want to experience Norway’s most spectacular rock formation, the hike is long enough that there is plenty of space for everyone.
Naturally, everyone wants a photo of the magical moment—standing on Trolltunga, the small rock ledge that juts out from the mountain, 700 meters above the lake below. There might be a short queue for photos. While you wait, we suggest enjoying your packed lunch and chatting with fellow hikers. You might hear interesting stories, get tips on other great attractions—and perhaps even make new friends.
Trolltunga is at its busiest between 12 PM and 3 PM, from approximately June 20 to August 20. The most crowded days are Saturdays and the first sunny day after several days of rain. On weekdays, around midday, you can expect a wait time of 30–45 minutes for your turn to take the iconic photo, while on Saturdays, the wait can be 60–90 minutes. If you arrive earlier or later in the day, there are usually fewer people.
Be considerate when it’s your turn!
Limit yourself to just a few poses. If you’re hiking alone, someone nearby will likely be happy to take your picture—just ask.
Do you have a fear of heights and prefer not to climb down onto Trolltunga? We have an easy solution: let someone take a picture of you with Trolltunga in the background. The perfect moment is when someone has just climbed back up, leaving Trolltunga empty. (Some of the pictures shown here were taken this way.)
Be careful!
Always keep a safe distance from the edge.

If you use a drone, you must follow. the regulatory framework And never put anyone at risk.
Show consideration for other hikers. For their safety, we ask you to avoid flying the drone when there are many people on Trolltunga itself.
All drone pilots must register on Avinor's webpage.
